The Great Western Locomotive No. 51, built in 1906, is owned by my grandfather John Birmingham, who purchased it in 1963. My father, James Birmingham, spent several years restoring the steam engine at the Hudson Terminal Railway in Hudson, Colorado.

On October 31, 2009, the engine was steamed up and ran for the first time since restoration. These photos were taken during the preparation that morning. It was the first time it had run since 2005, back when the train was in Fillmore, California.

I will go out to Colorado in July 2010 and hope to get a few more photos so check back soon!
